About Me

Who am I?

My name is Charyl Dezotell. I am a certified yoga teacher, a mobility specialist and a former personal trainer. Basically I love the human movement system.  My journey in the fitness and wellness industry started back in 2009. I started as a personal trainer and fell in love with helping people achieve their health and wellness goals. This led me to continue my education further and in 2011 I completed my Masters Degree in Exercise Science Rehabilitation. I then got a job teaching others to be  personal trainers at a local trade school.

Fast forward to 2018 when my husband and I were blessed with a beautiful baby and I made the choice to become a stay at home mom. 2 years later, we were delighted to welcome our second born in 2021. I knew that I would eventually want to re-enter the workforce, but I knew that I didn't want to go back to what I was doing before.

I had started going to yoga classes twice a week as active recovery from the gym as I was working to get my “pre-pregnancy” body back. But at some point, the focus shifted from yoga being supplemental to my strength training to strength training being supplemental to my yoga practice. Then one day at the end of a yoga class, while lying in Savasana, I had the thought that I could become a yoga teacher! In a few short months I found a Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) course that I felt aligned with and was able to land an in person teaching job before my certification course was even finished. Along the way, I also became incredibly interested in mobility training, and started to incorporate it into both the gym and yoga space. It didn't take long for me to start to experience increases in strength and flexibility on the mat as well as under the weight rack. So in early 2024, I became a certified mobility specialist and now I weave those techniques into my yoga sequences as a way to sneak in the benefits of a systemic approach to increasing strength and flexibility through the lens of  physical yoga vinyasa flows.

As much as I love to move my body, what really stood out to me from what  I learned about the practice of yoga in my YTT was that I recognized that there was a lack of mindset, breathwork and meditation provided by yoga instructors in my area. As a yoga practitioner in the western world, I often hear from those unfamiliar with the practice say that yoga is just breathing and stretching. And while yes, both of those components are key parts of yoga, it is not a full picture. I feel that as a yoga teacher it is my responsibility to guide my students into a complete practice, which is hard to do in the limited 60 minute in person classes I teach. This is what prompted me to create a space where yoga students can be introduced to a well rounded yoga practice. And now we have it! The Phoenix Fitness Virtual Yoga Studio! It is my aim to give students access and guidance for a fulfilling yoga experience no matter where they are in the world!

Love and Light,

Charyl Dezotell
